Cherry blossoms in Washington, DC are popular for good reason. As the winter comes to an end, and spring begins, their delicate pink petals bring so much magic to the city, transforming the landscape into a sea of pink. Set along the Tidal Basin, with the Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument in the background, the cherry blossoms make for a truly stunning backdrop for a family photography session, especially at sunrise.
Scott and Cecilia of Lovicarious run a travel blog and Instagram where they share about their adventures around Alexandria, Virginia, Washington DC, and beyond. They have two children and take them along on all of their adventures, so be sure to follow along for fun, kid-friendly hikes, trips, and more! I first met them for an in-home maternity session last year. Cecilia was pregnant with her daughter and we captured some beautiful moments of their growing family.
Fast forward to this year, we decided to head down to the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC to get some photos under the cherry blossoms! Reaching the cherry blossoms can be quite challenging. Despite the sunny but chilly morning, heavy traffic and scarce parking, we all managed to meet near the Jefferson Memorial. We walked around the Tidal Basin, navigating around the crowds and even some flooding. Scott, Cici, and their adorable children effortlessly posed for photos, making it seem natural and easy, despite the hectic start. Their loving interactions and cuddles to stay warm made the session a success!
It’s always a privilege to photograph a family multiple times. It allows for reconnection and deepens trust. Scott and Cici made this session seamless by being adaptable and giving so much love to their little ones. Despite all of the craziness that comes along with cherry blossoms in Washington, DC, we got some beautiful images that they can look back on for a long time.
