As a photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, and family portraits in Alexandria, Virginia, I take great pride in capturing and preserving your family's legacy. This blog serves as a space where I'll share memories from recent sessions, a little about myself, and helpful guides for my clients.
As an Old Town Alexandria newborn photographer, I believe there’s something incredibly meaningful about photographing families at home, especially in those early newborn days when life slows down and connection takes center stage.
This recent in-home session took place on a calm morning filled with soft, natural light. Baby slept for most of the time, wrapped up in the comfort of home and the love of two amazing parents (and one semi-curious pup).
Why I Love In-Home Newborn Photography in Old Town Alexandria
As a newborn photographer in Old Town Alexandria, I find that the best photos come from a place of connection. Rather than elaborate props or perfectly posed setups, I focus on what really matters: the feeling of bringing your baby home.
At this session, baby slept soundly through most of the morning. We took our time, pausing for a diaper change and an outfit swap, allowing space for whatever the baby needed. These tender moments are often the ones families treasure most, and the ones I’m most moved by.
My focus as Your Old Town Alexandria Newborn Photographer
I don’t focus on complicated posing or stiff setups. One of the most moving parts of this session was watching the parents simply be with their new baby. There was no rush. No need to perform. Just calm, quiet connection, with gentle direction and posing.
These are the moments I’m always looking for:
The way a mother instinctively smooths her baby’s hair.
A father’s quiet gaze while holding his newborn.
Tiny fingers stretching mid-nap
Mom and dad gazing at one another
These are the moments that matter. My role as your Old Town Alexandria newborn photographer is to preserve not just what this season looked like, but how it felt. Before you know it, those little moments will be gone.
Including Pets in Your In-Home Newborn Session
The family’s pup was still adjusting to the new baby, which is completely normal. With a little patience, we managed to include them in a few frames. While not every pet is immediately sure of their new role, I love when families want to incorporate them. They’re part of the family too!
